Rainy days in New York sometimes make me wish I never had to leave my apartment. But every time I see an umbrella shoved in a trash can or mangled on the street it always makes me think of the situation that occurred right before that umbrella was discarded. Was the carrier so frustrated with the umbrella that they simply gave up and dropped it on the street or was the umbrella carried away with a big gust of wind? Every time I see an orphan umbrella I wonder about the stories that each of these umbrellas embody. In a way I think that the umbrella identifies the human condition of the New Yorker.
